Vegan Waf: Best Vegan Belgian Waffles Brussels

A look at Vegan Waf: an authentic vegan Belgium waffle bakery in Brussels, Belgium

Brussels is a definitive European city. Capital to the European Union and is sandwiched between France, Germany, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. It has grown to be an incredibly diverse population that has blended multiple cultures together. It is a city that has a fascinating balance of being steeped in history and culture while still remaining trendy and cool. This balance provides a unique experience for travelers.

I was brought to Brussels with a 2-day layover flight between Rome and New York City. I choose this flight option because I thought that it would be really cool to spend a whole two days in Belgium and also to save money on the flight cost. So, I wanted to make the most of my designated time. The beautiful buildings, great shops, and, most importantly, Belgian Waffles.

After looking over information on the town, I identified a few things I wanted to be sure I experienced. I aimed to walk the Grand Place area, and relax and explore without too specific of an Itinerary. The second objective was to find vegan Belgium chocolate and Belgium waffles.

While walking the city on my first day, I was immediately struck with the intoxicating smell of Belgian Waffles that flowed through the air, this drove me utterly insane because I was on an empty stomach. As a vegan, it was incredibly difficult to look upon delicious, beautiful bakeries where they make decadent waffles that are drenched in chocolate. And there were no vegan options! It was driving me crazy!

Grand Place, Brussels

So, in my hangry state, I took to google and Happy Cow on the lookout for vegan Belgian waffles. Finding a couple of options near me, one place, in particular, caught my eye. A new small spot popped up online that made authentic vegan waffles.

The reviews were limited, but the ones on there were phenomenal and checked the two significant boxes for me 1. delicious 2. authentic. It seemed a bit difficult to find, but rather close to Grand Place. Many reviewers remarked on the difficulty of finding it, and I must agree I got a bit lost myself. But, eventually, I found the Agora shopping arcade where it was located. The search added to the adventure, and finally, my quest for a vegan Belgium waffle was complete.

Vegan Waf:

The place was called Vegan Waf and was home to the most delicious vegan Belgian Waffle I've ever had. Vegan Waf: Belgian waffle in Belgians Grand Place. After a bit of searching through the mini-mall, I found Vegan Waf. The bakery was smaller than I anticipated. one cook was working a Belgium waffle maker in a very modest space. But it was a very charming place. The waffles were inexpensive (only €3,50), and they were gluten-free as well as vegan!

I ordered a vegan waffle with authentic Belgian chocolate. After tasting that waffle, I realized why Vegan Waf had some of the best reviews on Happy Cow. It was everything I was hoping for and more! The food was beyond my expectations and left me feeling amazing. The waffle was crispy, sweet, and overall perfect. The Belgian chocolate, which covered the waffle, was terrific too! I downed the waffle and could not get over how accurate it really was. In fact, I went back for a second one, not too much later in the day.

After talking with the owner of Vegan Waf, I found out that the bakery opened two months ago in December of 2018. The owner wanted to create a traditional Belgian hood waffle that was also mindful of dietary restrictions. After some tinkering with the recipe, he nailed it! The waffle with chocolate gives the customer that authentic experience that every vegan traveler seeks when you travel abroad.
